The Gathering

BEMBRIDGE House Promotion with Photos Producer/Director Pamela Peak brings her masterful On-Impulse TM Acting Troupe to the Bembridge House in Long Beach, California, to perform moving monologues of the lives of the former residents of a fictional town called Spoon River.

On-Impulse breathes life into these characters as they hauntingly tell their stories, speaking of their loves, losses, life’s missions and regrets.

Spoon River Anthology, by Edgar Lee Masters, is a collection of short free-form poems that was first published in a magazine called Reedy’s Mirror in 1915. The poems are the epitaphs of each citizen, delivered by the dead themselves.

Some recite their histories and turning points, others make peace with themselves and those around them. Some are downright comical. The petty residents complain of the treatment of their graves. A few tell how they actually died.

Many are based upon the lives of real characters that lived in Southern Illinois in the late 1800s.

Pamela Peak—known for taking her audiences on an emotional journey, through her film-making, writing and directing—has set these poems to live piano, singing and dance.

The architecture of the Bembridge House, built in 1906, provides a perfect backdrop for these moving performances, and makes for a unique and entertaining Saturday night experience.

Admission is $10 at the door, but you must RSVP by calling 949-305-5496. Seating is very limited. Call to reserve your seats today!
